Brockville & Area Community Living Association supports people with intellectual disabilities and their families so they can reach their full potential and live their best lives.
We were founded in 1983 and are governed by a volunteer board of directors who represent the people we support, their families, and the broader community. Most of our funding comes from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. We also receive some additional funding through locally held fundraisers and donations from community members.
Brockville & Area Community Living Association is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that traces its roots back to the Brockville & District Association for Community Involvement (BDACI), founded in 1956 by concerned parents who lobbied for educational services for their sons and daughters.
Brockville & Area Community Living Association (BACLA) was incorporated in 1983, five years after BDACI opened its first group home on July 4, 1978. BACLA took over BDACI's residential services and now provides residential support for people with intellectual disabilities who want to live independently from their families.
In the years since our incorporation, BACLA has grown. However, we still maintain our focus on providing personalized care to the people we support–recognizing each of them as someone with unique gifts, talents and needs.
Community Living Ontario is a non-profit organization that advocates for over 100,000 people in the province through 122 affiliate organizations like Brockville & Area Community Living Association.
Community Living’s name reflects the understanding that people with intellectual disabilities have the right to participate fully in their communities: studying, working, engaging in hobbies, and more.
